Junonia rhadama ( Syn. Vanessa rhadama ) is occurring on the East African islands butterfly ( butterfly ) from the family of Nymphalidae (Nymphalidae).

The wingspan of the moth is about 50 millimeters. There is little sexual dimorphism . The basic color of the upper sides of the wings is bright blue. There is a blue-black stripe pattern on the forewings. In the submarginal region of the females, the hind wings show two eye spots, in the males only one, yellow-rimmed and half red-brown and half black-pithed. The fringes of the hind wings are silky white. The anal angle is pointed. On the gray-brown marbled underside of the wing, the eye-spots of the forewings shimmer through.

distribution and habitat
Junonia rhadama occurs in Madagascar , Mauritius , Rodrigues , Réunion , the Seychelles and the Comoros . The species prefers to colonize fallow land in low and coastal areas.
Way of life
The moths fly in several generations throughout the year, mainly in February, April, July and November. To take in nectar, they visit flowers such as Stachytarpheta jamacinensis . The caterpillars feed on the leaves of Barleria prionitis , Barleria cristata or Barleria lupulina, which belong to the acanthus family (Acanthaceae) .
