Jurek Dybał

Jurek Dybał ( Polish Jerzy Dybał ; born June 22, 1977 in Bytom ) is a Polish conductor and double bass player .

Life

Dybal began double bass studies at the Bytom Music School under Gerard Przybyła, where he graduated with honors in 1996, and in 2001 he continued his studies at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw in the class of Prof. Andrzej Mysiński. He also attended master classes, orchestral workshops and private lessons with Alois Posch, Klaus Stoll , Gary Karr , Franco Petracchi , Esko Laine, Johannes Auersperg and Josef Niederhammer.

At the age of 15 he became the youngest member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra , and was awarded a scholarship from the Yamaha Foundation of Europe after winning the audition for all strings. His work as an orchestral musician took him from Warsaw / Poland, where he played under Sir Yehudi Menuhin and Krzysztof Penderecki from 1997 to 2001 as section leader in the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra , via the Munich Philharmonic (2001-2003) to the Vienna State Opera Orchestra in 2003, where he has held the position of section leader in the double bass group since 2006. He also played as a substitute with Polish orchestras and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Furthermore, Dybal was one of the founding members of the international Gustav Mahler Chamber Orchestra, which Claudio Abbado established. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has made guest appearances with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the German Chamber Orchestra Berlin, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Wratislavia Orchestra, the Concerto Avenna, the Wiener Virtuosen, the Vienna Piano Quintet, the Munich Septet, the Prima Vista Quartet and the Silesian Quartet .

Jurek Dybal has given concerts at the Festival in Aix en Provence, at Toujour Mozart in Vienna and Salzburg, the Chopin Festival, the Festival de Pablo Casals in Prades, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and in Puerto Rico , at Music Isle Jeju in Korea, or the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw.

As a teacher, Dybal gives master classes in France, Australia, Korea, Japan, Puerto Rico and Canada. His special focus is on early music and in this area he worked with La Stagione Frankfurt , Il Tempo Warsaw and Trevor Pinnock or Marc Minkowski. His achievements were honored with the Phonographic Award in the early music category.

Another part of his musical activities is in the field of conducting. Dybal took part in master classes with Jorma Panula and founded the Paderewski Chamber Orchestra, with which he participated in European festivals, and recorded a world premiere of a newly discovered Suite for strings by Ignacy Jan Paderewski .

June 17, 2014 he became director of the Sinfonietta Cracovia .
