Jurga Šeduikytė (born February 10, 1980 in Telšiai , Lithuania ), known by her stage name Jurga , is a Lithuanian singer and songwriter .

Life

Jurga Šeduikytė was born into a family of musicians in Telšiai . At the age of 8 she moved with her family to Palanga , where Jurga received piano lessons at the music school and graduated from high school. She studied journalism at Vilnius University.

In 2002 she took part in the Fizz Superstar competition for young singers . In the same year she gave her first concerts with the girl rock band Muscat under the pseudonym Dingau . In 2004 she took part in the musicals Ugnies medžioklė su varovais and Tadas Blinda .

In 2005 she began her solo career under the stage name Jurga. Her first album Aukso Pieva (Goldwiese) came out on September 16 . The first single Nebijok (Do not be afraid) was 8 weeks on the first place of the Lithuanian hit parade. The album was produced by Andrius Mamontovas and contains 12 tracks in Lithuanian and English, almost all of which are from Jurga's pen. She received numerous awards and gave over 120 concerts in Lithuania and Latvia, all of which were sold out. In 2006 her songs came out internationally on Amazon, iTunes Music Store, Napster, eMusic, Virgin Megastore and Sony Connect.

Jurga's second album Instrukcija (Instructions) was released in April 2007 with 13 tracks. In this context, a tour through Lithuania took place and a concert in Haus Annaberg near Bonn . In July 2007 her song 5th Season won the Grand Prix of the Baltic Song Festival in Karlshamn , Sweden. On November 1st of the same year she was the first Lithuanian to receive an MTV European Music Award for the Best Baltic Act .

On August 28, 2008, Jurga gave birth to their son Adas. Less than a year later, on August 26th, 2009, she married her partner and father of her son, Vidas Bareikis , singer of the group Suicide DJs .
