Jurgis Brėdikis

Jurgis Brėdikis (born April 30, 1929 in Prague ) is a Lithuanian cardiac surgeon , professor , former politician (health minister) and diplomat .

Life

In 1946 he graduated from the 4th Kaunas Middle School and from 1946 to 1952 studied at the Kauno medicinos institutas and from 1954 to 1957 the Asiprantur at the 1st Medical Institute in Moscow and in 1963 received his doctorate in medicine. From 1952 he taught at the KMI, from 1964 to 1990 was head of the chair for hospital surgery , from 1966 professor. From 1993 to 1994 he was Minister of Health of Lithuania in the Šleževičius cabinet and then Ambassador in Prague and then from 1995 to 1997 in Turkey .

Since 2015 he has been an honorary citizen of the municipality of Kaunas .
