Juri Dmitrijewitsch Burago ( Russian Юрий Дмитриевич Бураго , English transcription Yuri Dmitrievich Burago; born June 21, 1936 ) is a Russian mathematician who deals with geometry (especially differential geometry and convex geometry).

Burago studied at the University of Leningrad and did his doctorate and habilitation there with Wiktor Abramowitsch Salgaller and Alexander Danilowitsch Alexandrow (Russian doctorate 1969). He is currently the head of the Department of Geometry and Topology at the Steklov Institute in Saint Petersburg.

Grigori Perelman is one of his doctoral students , with whom he also published a review article on Alexandrov rooms in 1992 together with Michail Leonidowitsch Gromow .

In 2014 he was awarded the Leroy P. Steele Prize for his book with Dmitri Burago and Sergei Wladimirowitsch Iwanow A course in metric geometry .

His son Dmitri Burago (* 1964), with whom he also wrote a book, is a mathematics professor at Pennsylvania State University and was also at the Steklow Institute.
