Yuri Dmitrijewitsch Wardimiadi ( Russian Юрий Дмитриевич Вардимиади ; * 1925 in Dranda , Abkhaz SSR ; † June 7, 1956 ) was a Soviet football player .

life and career

Yuri Wardimiadi was born in the village of Dranda in what is now Abkhazia . He comes from the Greek minority in the region and is the brother of Nikolai and Iwan Wardimiadi , who were also soccer players.

He began professional football at Dinamo Suchum , where Nikita Simonjan , Georgi Grammatikopulo , Walter Sanaja , Wladimir Marganija and Awtandil Gogoberidze , among others, began their careers in the 1940s . In 1948 he ran for the first time for the first team of his club. On the Dinamo Suchum website, Wardimiadi is listed as one of nine “legendary players” for the club.

A year later Wardimiadi moved to Dynamo Leningrad in the highest Soviet league .

In 1950 he was signed by Dinamo Tbilisi , where he would remain for the remainder of his active football career. With his new club he was Soviet runner-up in 1951 and 1955. After the 1955 season, he finally ended his career as an active player and died a year later.
