Walter Wissarionowitsch Sanaja ( Russian Вальтер Виссарионович Саная ; born September 24, 1925 in Otschamtschira , Abkhaz SSR ; † October 29, 1999 in Moscow ) was a Soviet football goalkeeper. His last name is also given in the spellings Sanaia and Sanaya .

life and career

Sanaja was in the youth of Dinamo Tbilisi before starting his professional career at Dinamo Suchum . From 1944 he was in the Dinamo Tbilisi team before moving to the then top team at Dynamo Moscow in 1946 . In 1949 he became Soviet football champions with the capital city. In Moscow Sanaja initially competed with Alexei Khomitsch for the post of goalkeeper.

When in 1949 the later goalkeeper Lev Yashin was brought into the first team of Dynamo Moscow, Sanaja came to fewer and fewer missions due to the strong competition. In 1954 he finally moved back to Dinamo Tbilisi, before ending his career at Neftjanik Baku from 1955 to 1956 .

His daughter Marina Sanaja was a figure skater and competed for the Soviet Union at the 1972 Olympic Games.

Walter Sanaja died in Moscow in 1999.
