The FK Dinamo Sukhum ( Russian ФК Динамо Сухум ) is a football club from the Abkhazian capital Sukhum .

history

The FK Dinamo Suchum was founded in 1927 (according to other information in 1936). At first they only played in the lower leagues, after the Second World War they played second class for a short time from 1961 to 1962 and played briefly as Riza Suchum in 1961, but was renamed again to Dinamo Suchum shortly afterwards. After a league reform, the club then played for a long time in the Wtoraja League , the third highest league in the Soviet Union.

During this time, Dinamo Suchum was a training center or a stopover for numerous prominent Soviet football players, including Nikita Simonjan , Walter Sanaja , Georgi Grammatikopulo , Juri Wardimiadi , Vladimir Marganija , Nijasbei Dzjapschipa and Awtandil Gogoberidze . Most of the talents could not be kept in the long term, however, and they were usually lost after a few years to larger clubs, especially Dinamo Tbilisi .

A great success came when they were able to advance as a third division team to the round of 16 at the Soviet Football Cup in 1987/88 , where they ultimately lost 5-1 to Metalist Kharkov . Before that, however, the first division club Dinamo Minsk had been eliminated.

In 1989 one finally achieved promotion to the Pervaya League , the second highest league in the Soviet Union.

When Georgia declared itself independent in 1990 and founded its own football league, Dinamo Sukhum refused to compete in the new Georgian league and instead remained in the Soviet football system. The last two seasons were spent in the second Soviet league and were able to build a relatively constant team. The 1991 season ended in 10th place out of 22, the average attendance at home games was around 4,500.

In 1991, however, the Soviet Union finally dissolved and civil war broke out in Abkhazia . Game operations could hardly be continued under these conditions for the time being. Almost the entire team left the club due to the civil war, including Ruslan Ajindschal , Tamasi Jenik , Lev Beresner , Gennady Timofeev , Daur Achwlediani , Roman Chagba and Dschemal Gubas .

When the situation in Abkhazia calmed down and the country was now de facto independent, regular gaming operations were finally re-established in 1994. In the same year the Abkhazian football championship was held for the first time , the first champion of which was FK Dinamo Sukhum. Nevertheless, the club then slowly but surely disintegrated and from the beginning of the 2000s they stopped playing in the Abkhazian league. Dinamo Sukhum tried several times for approval for the Russian Amateur Football League .

In 2010, at the instigation of the Abkhazian President Sergei Bagapsch, a new team was put together for the club and the former Soviet national player Oleg Dolmatov was briefly hired as a coach. Since then, Dinamo Sukhum has been playing in the Abkhaz football championship again.

A championship title has not been won since then, in 2011 they reached 3rd place in the league and 4th place in 2012.

FC Dinamo Sukhumi

In addition to FK Dinamo Sukhum, there is another football club, FC Dinamo Sochumi , which sees itself in the tradition of the former Soviet football club. FC Dinamo Sochumi is an exile club based in Tbilisi , which was founded by Georgians displaced from Abkhazia.
