Yuri Witaliyowytsch Odartschenko Ukrainian Юрій Віталійович Одарченко (born April 5, 1960 in Cherson , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian politician and member of the All-Ukrainian Association "Fatherland" party . Since March 2, 2014 he has been the governor of Kherson Oblast .

biography

In 1982 Odartschenko graduated from the Kherson State Agricultural University. From 1982 to 84 he did his military service in the Odessa Military District . From 1989 to 1992 he was the head of the economic department of the Ukrainian company "Hersonprombud Trest". 1992-93 he was the manager of the company "Mekhanizatsiya budivnytstva". From 1993 to April 2002 he was the chairman of the joint stock company "Budmekhanizatsiia". In 1997 he obtained a doctorate in industrial engineering . From 1998 to 2006 he was a member of the Kherson City Council. Since 2000 he has been a professor of economics and environmental science at the Kherson State Agricultural University. From April to August 8, 2002 he was the deputy mayor of Kherson. In the parliamentary elections in 2006 and 2007 , he became a member of the Blok Yuliya Tymoshenko . In September 2010 he was elected deputy chairman of this group. On July 5, 2012, he was charged with "organizing an illegal gathering" in front of the American embassy. He accused the government of Ukraine of using the US embassy to “cover up its business.” In the 2012 parliamentary elections , he was appointed deputy group leader of the All-Ukrainian association “Fatherland”. On April 17, 2013, a judicial review took place to terminate his parliamentary mandate, as he was accused of having been a member of a GmbH during his time as a member of parliament , which is illegal. Ordatschenko's faction saw it as a purely politically motivated undertaking due to its persistent criticism of the Kiev authorities.

On March 2, 2014, by decree of the interim president Oleksandr Turchynow, he was appointed governor of Kherson Oblast to succeed Mykola Kostyak , who resigned on February 24 . In an interview at the end of April 2014, Odachenko, citing Ukrainian authorities, warned of threats from Russian secret services, which would also try intensively in his region to recruit people for "protest actions" and provocations and to carry out an attack at traditional Victory Day celebrations . the Ukrainian nationalists should be blamed: "Then Russia would be asked to come to the aid of the Russian people," said Odartschenko.

Speech on Victory Day 2014

On May 9, 2014, the 69th anniversary of Victory Day, Governor Odartschenko gave a speech to veterans of the Great Patriotic War in which he questioned the intentions of the Communists and said they were no better than the Nazis . Odartschenko also indicated that a similar situation is currently taking place in eastern Ukraine . He compared Russia with Nazi Germany and assumed that both countries had overrun Ukraine. In addition, he said that " Hitler was a liberator of the people against the tyrant Stalin ". An outraged crowd, which according to the local internet newspaper "Khersonskie Vesti" had been sent by the Communist Party to interrupt the speech, protested loudly and his microphone was thrown away.
