Yuri Wassiljewitsch Silantjew

Yuri Wassiljewitsch Silantjew ( Russian Юрий Васильевич Силантьев ; born April 10, 1919 in the Promsino settlement , today Surskoje in the Russian Ulyanovsk Oblast ; † February 8, 1983 in Moscow ) was a Russian and Soviet conductor and composer. He directed the orchestra of the central television and all-union radio in the Soviet Union . Silantjew led it for 25 years, from 1958 until his death in 1983. He was known through television and radio broadcasts throughout the Soviet Union, including as conductor of the popular year-end concert Song of the Year .

His former television and radio orchestra still exists today as an academic large concert orchestra and bears his name. Silantjew also played the music for well-known films, e.g. B. to be careful, car thief! (1966) and Seventeen Moments of Spring (1973). In 1974 a record called Granada appeared in the GDR under the Amiga brand , on which Silantjew conducted several pieces. He also composed a number of symphonic works. Yuri Silantjew died unexpectedly at the age of 63 the evening after recording in the Moscow television concert studio.

During his work he was honored with the highest awards for artists, including as People's Artist of the RSFSR (1968) and as People's Artist of the USSR (1975).
