The Jorat (former German name: yurts ) is a forested highlands in the canton of Vaud in western Switzerland Central Plateau , northeast of Lausanne . Its name has the same origin as the Jura ; the Celtic word jor means something like forest or woodland .

The Jorat area is bounded in the south by Lake Geneva and Lavaux , in the east by the Forel basin and the Broyetal , in the north by the valley systems of the Mentue with tributaries and in the west by the area of the Gros de Vaud . Towards the south, the highlands of the Jorat slopes down relatively steeply, while towards the other cardinal points it only gradually turns away, and no clear geographical boundaries can be seen. The highest point of this Molasse highland reaches 929  m above sea level. M.

The central part of the Jorat is covered by a large forest, the Bois du Jorat . This is the headwaters of the Talent , Mentue and Bressonne rivers . The Jorat is from the main road 1 from Lausanne to Bern in the Pass Col du Chalet-à-Gobet at 872  m above sea level. M. crossed.
