JustFab , formerly Justfabulous , is an online fashion and styling service that was founded in Los Angeles in 2010 and produces and sells women's accessories such as shoes and handbags . JustFab has also been active on the German market since May 2012.

history

JustFab was founded in March 2010 by Don Ressler and Adam Goldenberg. In September 2011, Kimora Lee Simmons became President and Creative Director of JustFab. In addition, JustFab received funding of $ 33 million. Since then JustFab has announced partnerships with Avril Lavigne and her Abbey Dawn collection, as well as Dereon by Beyoncé . In July 2012 JustFab received an additional $ 76 million funding.

In January 2013, JustFab announced the acquisition of subscription commerce company FABKids. In addition, in May 2013 the Barcelona-based company “TheFabShoes” was acquired. According to the latest information, JustFab's turnover will grow from 77 million euros in 2012 to over 190 million euros in 2013 and has over 700 employees in Los Angeles, Louisville and Charlotte (USA) - Berlin, London and Barcelona (Europe). The European share of sales is 30 million euros.

Just Fabulous Inc. is part of the Intelligent Beauty Inc. group of companies. Sister companies of Just Fabulous Inc. are Dermstore.com, which operates on the American market and operates one of the largest online shops for dermatological products in the USA, and SENSA, a product in the field Sells food supplements . In October 2013, JustFab introduced Fabletics , a company founded together with actress Kate Hudson , which sells sports outfits. All four companies are headquartered in El Segundo, California . Fabletics has also been active in Germany, England and France since July 2014.

membership

At the beginning, users have to go through a style test, which provides information about their fashion preferences and thus enables Justfab to personalize the offer. The registered users then receive new product suggestions based on their style profile every month. The creation of these style suggestions is free of charge. Users can have new styles put together as often as they want.

When purchasing for the first time, registered customers can choose between VIP and guest membership. The VIP membership enables the purchase of the products at a special price. In return, the VIP member must visit the website at least once a month and either buy any product or pause membership. Basic members can purchase the products for prices starting at € 49.95, but have no monthly obligation.

Kimora: House of Fab TV Show

In January 2013, the first episode of the TV show House of Fab with Kimora Lee Simmons was broadcast on the TV channel Style Network in the USA . 8 episodes are about the structure of the company JustFab. The TV show is a sequel to Kimora Lee Simmons' previous TV show Life in the Fab Lane . After the format was broadcast in England in March 2013, it was expanded into the German-speaking market on the E! Entertainment .

Criticisms

The business policy of this “subscription retailer”, which was previously unknown in Germany (2013), is met with incomprehension by some customers and is also discussed controversially in the press. For example, Stern magazine took up the JustFab online theme in September 2012. Above all, the debiting of the so-called membership fees is criticized there. The subject of the company's “well-hidden” fashion subscription is also highlighted in consumer forums and commented critically, as before. The main point of criticism is above all that the different subscription models are tied to the behavior of the members. Only the VIP subscribers have the option to pause the subscription model. If, however, a member neither pauses nor purchases one of the listed products within the first five days of a month, a credit of € 39.95 will be automatically deducted from the deposited means of payment, which can only be used for future purchases.
