The Zeithain correctional facility is a correctional facility (JVA) near Zeithain in the district of Meißen , Saxony . The prison has an occupancy capacity of 361 prisoners in the closed prison and 34 prisoners in the open prison . The inmates are looked after and treated by 145 employees.
history
The institution was handed over in 1977 for approx. 600 prisoners as penal institutions (StVE) and from 1991 to 2007 it was the first and only juvenile penal institution in the Saxon penal system .
Vocational and school education and training offers and occupations
The measures for school and vocational training and further education are offered by the training provider Berufsfortbildungswerk bfw in various training areas (e.g. wood , metal , gardening and landscaping , building cleaning , construction equipment , electrical engineering , welding technology ).
At the same time, economically organized work companies should contribute to meaningful employment of the prisoners. Own businesses include: occupational therapy, gardening and landscaping, art work and car cleaning. The commercial operations include: house workshop, kitchen and chamber.
In addition, as an entrepreneurial company, prisoners manufacture products on behalf of external companies.

In November 2016, the head of the institution, Thomas Galli, submitted his resignation. As a reason he gave: “I don't want to be someone who in 20 years' time still demands the abolition of prisons at conferences, but who runs a prison myself. It just doesn't fit. "When asked what to do with the prisoners in his facility, Galli said:" I would all release them because they all have an average of 1 or 2 years in prison, and nothing gets better during that time . “Galli became a board member of the victims' association netzwerkB on October 8, 2016.
