The Zeithain correctional facility is a correctional facility (JVA) near Zeithain in the district of Meißen , Saxony . The prison has an occupancy capacity of 361 prisoners in the closed prison and 34 prisoners in the open prison . The inmates are looked after and treated by 145 employees.

history

The institution was handed over in 1977 for approx. 600 prisoners as penal institutions (StVE) and from 1991 to 2007 it was the first and only juvenile penal institution in the Saxon penal system .

In November 2016, the head of the institution, Thomas Galli, submitted his resignation. As a reason he gave: “I don't want to be someone who in 20 years' time still demands the abolition of prisons at conferences, but who runs a prison myself. It just doesn't fit.
