founding

The German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) set up local vocational training centers at the beginning of the 1950s. On July 18, 1953, the federal committee of the DGB, the highest body between the DGB congresses, decided unanimously to combine the existing professional training facilities into a company with limited liability. On December 4, 1953, the articles of association were signed and the professional training facility of the German Federation of Trade Unions was founded. Since then, the bfw group of companies has been helping to meet the union requirement “Everyone must be given the opportunity to continue their education according to their suitability and inclinations for a profession” (DGB basic program).

The new company brought together the existing facilities in Augsburg , Dortmund , Düsseldorf , Iserlohn , Mannheim , Munich , Münster , Nuremberg , Stuttgart and Wuppertal . In its first year of existence, the bfw already offered 924 courses. Commercial subjects such as typing, shorthand and general subjects such as German and foreign languages were the focus. The technical area was also covered. In the years that followed, numerous new vocational training centers were set up at various locations in Germany. In order to adapt the range of courses to regional and local conditions, the individual bfw institutions decide relatively independently about their programs.

With the reunification of Germany and the special conditions in the area of the former GDR, the vocational training center founded a subsidiary based in Berlin on September 12, 1990 : Berufsfortbildungswerk GmbH (bfw).

With the takeover of the Berlin inab GmbH - society for work and education, and the change of name to inab - training and employment company on October 21, 1991 in Berlin, the diversification of the offer within the group was achieved: Here young people and young adults can find offers in the field Transition from school to work, professional orientation, initial training and employment.

The subsidiary weitblick - personalpartner GmbH was founded on January 1st, 2004 in order to meet the specific requirements in the field of personnel development.

Today the group qualifies around 45,000 participants annually in around 200 educational institutions and training centers throughout Germany.
