Justo Lacunza

Justo Lacunza Balda MAfr (born March 14, 1944 in Pamplona , Spain) is a Roman Catholic religious and scholar of Islam .

Life

Justo Lacunza joined the Order of the White Fathers (MAfr) and was a missionary in various offices in Tanzania from 1969 to 1974 after his ordination .

Lacunza studied Arabic languages (licentiate 1977) as well as Arabic and Islamic studies (BA 1978) at PISAI in Rome. From 1975 to 1978 he completed postgraduate studies in Arabic at the Institut Bourguiba des Langues Vivantes at the Université de Tunis. It was founded in 1989 with a thesis in Kiswahili on the African language and culture, especially about Islam and Islamic culture at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London PhD .

From 1982 to 1986 he was assistant professor at PISAI in Rome, from 1989 professor for Arabic and Islamic studies, from 1995 dean. In 2000 he became rector of the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) in Rome. He was succeeded in 2006 by Ayuso Guixot MCCJ .

He was committed to working with the Muslim Brotherhood . Lacunza has published numerous papers and essays on Islam.
