Justus Christian Ludwig von Schellwitz

Justus Christian Ludwig von Schellwitz (born September 10, 1735 in Roßla , † June 22, 1797 in Jena ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Schellwitz was the son of the then Graflich-Stollberg chancellery director Georg Christian von Schellwitz († August 9, 1759). He studied at the University of Jena and the University of Göttingen . In Göttingen he received his doctorate in law in 1760. After that he worked for some time in his place of birth. In 1763 he moved to the University of Wittenberg , where he lectured and was appointed associate professor of law in 1765. However, the prospects for a full professorship in Wittenberg were not favorable.

Therefore, in 1766, he accepted a call to the Jena Salina as an associate professor of law. Here he received a full professorship in 1769, took over the professorship of the institutions in 1776 and became professor of constitutional law on June 27, 1782. Associated with this was an assessor position at the Jena court court and Schöppenstuhl. He was also appointed Hofrat Sachsen-Coburg in 1786 . Schellwitz also took part in the organizational tasks of the Jena University. So he was dean of the law faculty and in the summer semesters 1777, 1781, 1784, 1789 rector of the alma mater .
