Jutta Semler

Jutta Semler (born August 17, 1941 in Berlin ; † July 1, 2016 there ) was a German doctor . Her areas of expertise were endocrinology , diabetology , immunology , rheumatology , metabolic diseases and osteology .

Life

From 1969 to 1978 she worked as a research assistant at the Charlottenburg Clinic of the Free University of Berlin . She then worked as a senior physician at the Rudolf Virchow Hospital and introduced bone density measurement (osteodensitometry) using the double energy photon absorption method (DPA) in Germany in 1980 . It has earned a national and international reputation as an expert in the field of osteoporosis detection and treatment.

Between 1992 and 2007 she headed the department for metabolic diseases and osteology at the Immanuel Hospital in Berlin as chief physician , where she still worked in private practice after retirement.

As a founding member and Vice President of the Women's Health Coalition e. V. she was one of the first in Germany to advocate gender-specific medicine and health policy ( gender mainstreaming ). In this spirit, she also acted as the medical director of the Immanuel Women's Health Center .

Semler was the chairwoman of the Bone Health Board. V. and chairwoman of the board of Urania Berlin e. V. In 2005, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class by the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit , for her longstanding service to this non-profit organization .

Jutta Semler lived in Berlin.
