Jutta von Freckenhorst († May 1, 1298 ) was abbess at Freckenhorst Abbey .

Life

The exact origin of Jutta von Freckenhorst is not documented, but her relationship to the Counts of Arnsberg is considered certain. Jutta succeeded Abbess Heilewigis in 1272 . A year later a dispute developed with the cathedral chapter over the property of the archdeaconate in Freckenhorst. Pope Honorius III.was turned on, but the three judges appointed by him did not succeed in reaching an agreement. The fact that the archdeaconate later belonged to the monastery suggests that the abbess was victorious in this dispute. There are numerous documents from her term of office with which legal transactions (donations as well as purchases and sales) have been made. Jutta's particular focus was on the hospital, and she was committed to maintaining and expanding it. The establishment of a leper house goes back to her initiative. Jutta was the first abbess who also bore the name of the Augustinian order in her name . That was on January 15, 1277. She remained in the office of abbess until her death. Her successor was Beatrix von Grafschaft .
