from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jutta von Holte († June 18, 1251 ) was abbess in Nottuln Abbey and Metelen Abbey .

Life

Origin and family

Jutta von Holte grew up as the daughter of nobleman Wilhelm von Holte with her siblings Adolf (Vogt in Nottuln), Ludolf (Bishop of Münster), Wilhelm (Dompropst in Münster), Hermann (abbot in the Corvey Monastery) and Wikbold in a noble family . Wilhelm (Bishop of Münster), Wigbold (Archbishop of Cologne) were her nephews and Beatrix (Abbess in Essen) her niece. Jutta's great niece of the same name was also abbess in Nottuln.

Career and work

Jutta succeeded her predecessor Bertradis as abbess in 1211. Her brother Ludolf helped her in 1238 to liberate the monastery from the patronage of noble bailiffs and sub-bailiffs, who were prone to blackmail. She bought the bailiwick from her brother Adolf for 50 marks and was given the right by the bishop to appoint or depose bailiffs at her own discretion. With Ludolf's support, she succeeded in acquiring goods that turned a modest monastery into an institution with considerable economic power. 24 prebendants could be awarded here.

On July 16, 1246 she received a house in Münster as a gift from Ludolf.

She remained in office until her death. Her successor was Gertrudis von Bentheim .
