Jyotindra Nath Dixit

Jyotindra Nath Dixit (born January 8, 1936 in Madras ; † January 3, 2005 in New Delhi , India ) was an Indian diplomat and politician and worked for the Indian Foreign Ministry from 1991 to 1994.

Dixit was most recently national security advisor and was considered the architect of the peace talks with neighboring Pakistan . He also held discussions on border disputes with the People's Republic of China . Dixit was sent to Pakistan as an ambassador. In this function he also worked in several other countries. After 1994 he joined the Indian Congress Party . There he acted as an advisor for foreign and defense policy.

Dixit died of a heart attack at the age of 68 . He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously in 2005.
