K&M in Magstadt
the branch in Hanover

The K & M Elektronik AG was a distributor of hardware and software Württemberg Baden-headquartered in Magstadt . It went into bankruptcy in October 2012, was sold and has since continued to operate in a reduced form with its headquarters in Munich .

The company operated 33 retail branches in ten German federal states and an Internet mail order business for private and commercial customers. K&M Elektronik employed around 400 people and had an annual turnover of over 300 million euros by 2012.

history

The company was founded in March 1992 as Keller & Mötting GbR by Klaus Keller and Achim Mötting in Böblingen . In 1995 the name was changed to K&M Elektronik GmbH and the first branches were opened in the greater Stuttgart area. In 1996 the head office was relocated to Magstadt and mail order business started over the Internet. In 2000 K&M Elektronik had 14 branches throughout Germany. Since April 11, 2002, the company was a stock corporation, which was not listed, but was held by the two founders.

Web shop security problems

In June 2011 it became known that the retailer's webshop had security gaps. Hackers succeeded in copying the customer database and then sending phishing emails to the customers. Previously, attackers had broken into the system in December 2009 and copied the customer database.

In a renewed attack on the retailer's website in August 2011, 840,000 customer data records were copied.

In November 2011 a completely revised webshop was published. This required a new registration for each customer and thus built on a completely adjusted basis.

Bankruptcy, sale

On October 22nd, 2012, K&M Elektronik filed for bankruptcy . On January 4, 2013 it was announced that the Düren Bora Computer Group had taken over 13 of the 33 branches and 60 employees. These branches are now called K & M Computer. The Atelco branches taken over by K&M Computer on March 1, 2016 now also bear the name K & M Computer. September 2019, several branches will be closed again (Hamburg, Hanover, Wuppertal, Berlin).
