Giles MS Tod (born 1914 in Boston , † August 31, 1995 in West Sussex , England ) was an American writer and author .

Born in Boston as the grandson of Sir Casper Purdon Clarke, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and later director of the Metropolitan Museum in New York , Tod was familiar with art and photography from an early age. He spent much of his life on the last sailing ships on the American coast. In addition to circumnavigating Cape Horn, he also sailed most of the world's oceans until he was drafted into the Second World War.
Death spent the war years in the service of the Coast Guard . He was stationed in Africa , Italy and India , among others .
After the war he returned to America and became a lecturer at the USCG Academy in New London . During this time most of his publications were created. He was known as a Hasselblad photographer. Most of these recordings are the only ones that have ever dealt with everyday life on board.
