The Kåfjord ( Northern Sami : Gávkevuotna ) is a fjord in the northeast of the large, between the Alta Fjord and the Porsangerfjord located Porsanger Peninsula (Norwegian: Porsangerhalvøya ) in the Norwegian Fylke (Province) Troms og Finnmark . It lies in its entirety in the area of the municipality of Nordkapp .
The fjord is 4.5 kilometers long and up to 2.5 km wide, has a maximum depth of 55 meters and flows into Magerøysund , about 12 km southwest of the town of Honningsvåg , which separates the mainland from the island of Magerøya with the North Cape .
The European route 69 runs along its south and west banks until it enters the 6,875-meter-long Nordkapunnel at the northwestern end of the fjord. Until the opening of the tunnel in 1999, the island of Magerøya was connected to the mainland by a ferry from the settlement of Kåfjord through the Kåfjord and over the Magerøysund to Honningsvåg.
