Kåfjord is the only festländische village of the municipality Nordkapp in Norwegian Fylke (Province) Troms og Finnmark .

location

The place is located in the northeast of the Porsanger Peninsula (Norwegian: Porsangerhalvøya ), on the eastern bank of the Kåfjord ( North Sami : Gávkevuotna ), a 4.5 km long fjord south of the island of Magerøya , on which the other settlements of Nordkapp are located. and immediately west of the entrance to the great Porsangerfjord .

traffic

Until the inauguration of the 6,875-meter-long Nordkap tunnel on European route 69 in 1999, Kåfjord was the southern terminus of the ferry connection from the mainland to Honningsvåg and the North Cape on the island of Magerøya.

The ferry terminal was only completed in 1977. At the same time, the road from Repvåg to Kàfjord, which had been planned since at least 1949 , was built as an extension of the Smørfjord- Repvåg road.
