Koenigsee (Plötzky)

The Königsee is a lake northeast of the village of Plötzky, which belongs to Schönebeck (Elbe) in Saxony-Anhalt . The city of Gommern is located north of the lake .

The lake, which is surrounded by forest, was created as a result of the quarrying of quartzite rock . In 1920, however, the mining was stopped. The lake in the Plötzky district reaches a depth of up to 25 meters and has a surface of around 7800 m². It is also used regularly by diving enthusiasts. A local recreation area was created in the vicinity of the lake, which is mainly characterized by permanent camping and arboreal properties .
