The granular beef dung cup ( Cheilymenia granulata , also Coprobia granulata and Ascophanus granulatus ) is a hose fungus that is often found on cow dung .
features
The fruiting bodies are up to 4 mm in size, thick and sit sessile on the substrate. They are orange-yellow in color, turning a rich orange-red color when drying. The fruit layer appear grainy rough at maturity outstanding hose tips. The outside and edge of the cup are of a sticky-grainy consistency. The elliptical spores are 13-16x6-7.5 µm in size, smooth and do not have a drop. The short-stemmed asci are eight pores and have a size of 180-210x10-12 µm.
Occurrence and likelihood of confusion
The grainy beef dung cup can appear anywhere cow dung can be found. Similar cuplets of the genus Cheilymenia differ in their distinct hairiness.
