Körtingbrunnen
The Körtingbrunnen is a fountain ensemble in the pedestrian zone of the Lister Meile on the corner of Körtingstraße in the Hanover district of List .
history
After the construction of the subway and the redesign of large parts of the Lister Meile into a pedestrian zone , the city administration of Hanover announced an internal competition for the design of a fountain. As a result, the five stainless steel figures created by the Hanoverian city designer Gerhard Bünemann and inaugurated in 1976 were installed on stepped brick rosettes. The heads of the wells can be rotated 90 ° while the system is in operation.
The fountain bears the official name Körtingbrunnen because of its location on Körtingstrasse. In common parlance the name has Horsehead wells naturalized since the steel figures give the impression of horse heads. Occasionally the figures are also referred to as faucets because of their resemblance to a cock's head and their function of spewing water.
