The Künstlerhaus Hooksiel in Hooksiel is an institution of the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland to promote visual artists.

The Künstlerhaus Hooksiel has existed since 1986 and invites artists to work, exhibit and live. There is a varied annual artistic program that offers exhibitions, lectures, master classes, excursions, workshops and workshop discussions. The activities of the facility are followed with great interest by the citizens of the municipality of Wangerland. The Künstlerhaus has made a name for itself far beyond the regional area. In 2011 the Künstlerhaus had to be restricted in terms of space for financial reasons. Most of the house with the onion dome had to be ceded to the Shell Museum, so that only the archive and the printing workshop of the artist house are housed there. The exhibition room and the apartment for scholarship holders are located in the former fire station as before.

Support association

To support the Künstlerhaus, the support association Künstlerhaus Hooksiel e. V. , which dissolved in 2011 as part of the reorientation of the artist house Hooksiel. It had about 200 members. The sponsoring association felt obliged to the ideals and tradition of the art associations in Germany. The state of Lower Saxony has been granting small grants for the exhibitions of the scholarship holders since 2000. For the benefit of the Künstlerhaus, the Friends' Association has been holding a 6-week lottery since 1997 . Since 2016 the "Förderverein Kunst- und Erlebnispfad Hooksiel eV" has supported the artist house Hooksiel financially and ideally.
