The Coast Guard of the Republic of China (Taiwan) ( Chinese 行政院 海岸 巡防 署 , Pinyin Xíngzhèngyuàn Hǎi'àn Xúnfáng Shǔ ) was established in 2000 and is under its own minister (currently Wang Ginn-wang). The Taipei- based Coast Guard has a strength of 15,034 men (2004 estimate).
tasks
The tasks include maintaining or restoring public safety and order at sea, detecting smuggling at sea, uncovering illegal migration , rescuing water at sea, inspecting sea ports , protecting water and securing fish stocks ( fish poaching , fishing regulations, Epidemics). In addition, the coast guard has the task of a water police at sea. The Coast Guard is a civilian agency within the executive yuan division , but reports to the armed forces in emergencies and defense .
