Nighthawk is an EP by the German post-rock / post-metal band Long Distance Calling . It was released on June 26, 2014 on the band's own label Avoid the Light Records .

Emergence

While the band was working on their fifth studio album, the musicians had the idea to release a live recorded, purely instrumental Jam EP. The music should arise spontaneously without being arranged or prepared. With the EP, the musicians want to return to their musical roots. To finance the project, the band started a crowdfunding campaign via the Internet platform Pledge Music . By February 25, 2014, the specified target amount of around 13,000 euros had to be achieved for the EP to appear. However, the target was reached within less than two weeks and was even exceeded by 31 percent. The money raised was used to pay for the studio , the artwork , the pressing of the sound carriers and the postage .

The recordings took place from February 28 to March 2, 2014 in the Go Recording / Jovel Music studio in Münster . Singer Martin Fischer was responsible for keyboards , synthesizers and electronic sounds on the EP . According to bassist Jan Hoffmann, the band was jamming and what sounded like a song was then immediately recorded live. Was produced Nighthawk by the band and Florian Steppke. Steppke also contributed other electronic sounds and keyboards. The EP was mixed by Benjamin Schäfer, while Lee Fletcher did the mastering . The band then dispatched the finished EP to the donors themselves. According to Jan Hoffmann, the upcoming studio album will be released via a record label in the regular way.

publication

The EP was released as a download . The EP is also available as a digipack CD limited to a thousand copies and as an LP limited to five hundred copies. The cover artwork was designed by Sebastian Jerke. Originally the EP was supposed to be released in April or May, but had to be postponed until the end of June due to bottlenecks in the LP manufacturers' press shops.
