Kęstutis Macijauskas (born March 12, 1961 in Dusetos ) is a flotilla admiral a. D. the Lithuanian naval forces and their former commander.

Life

Kęstutis Macijauskas was born in 1961 as the son of a fisherman in the small Lithuanian town of Dusetos. After he said he was interested in the Navy at an early age, after graduating from the Dusetos Middle School, he graduated from the Faculty of Communications at the Academy for Naval Forces in Kaliningrad until 1984 .

Military career

After his training in Kaliningrad, Kęstutis Macijauskas worked as an officer in the submarine fleet of the Soviet Navy . In 1992 he returned to Lithuania and joined the emerging Navy there. As with many later flag officers of the Baltic states, he also went abroad to study and study. From 1994 to 1995 he attended the Naval Staff College of the Naval War College of the US Navy and in 2004 the NATO Defense College in Rome .

Macijauskas had been in command of the Maritime and Coast Guard Service since 1997, when he became Commander of the Lithuanian Naval Forces on April 28, 1999 by order of the Minister of Defense, succeeding Raimundas Saulius Baltuška . On February 22, 2000 he was awarded the rank of sea ​​captain by presidential decree No. 781 , and since February 16, 2005 he had the rank of flotilla admiral.

From 2008 to 2010, Kęstutis Macijauskas was Chief of Staff in the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense . Subsequently, he returned to the post of commander of the naval forces, which Olegas Marinicius had taken over in the meantime. After another five years in this office, he was replaced by Arūnas Mockus in 2015 . He then worked as a representative of Lithuania at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe until he was adopted into the reserve in March 2019.

Private

The admiral is married and has two sons. His hobbies include hunting and traveling - he is also interested in history.
