Raimundas Saulius Baltuška

Raimundas Saulius Baltuška (born August 31, 1937 in Šančiai , Kaunas ; † April 9, 2016 ) was a Lithuanian educator in Klaipėda , flotilla admiral and commander of the Lithuanian naval forces .

Life

Raimundas Saulius Baltuška graduated from high school in the Lithuanian SSR to study at the Military Academy in Leningrad . From 1989 to 1992 he worked in Kaliningrad and then switched as a volunteer to the Lithuanian armed forces being reconstructed . Over the next few years he was involved in building up the Navy, of which he became Commander in Chief in 1992. In 1997 he was awarded the rank of Flotilla Admiral by the Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, the first after the country regained its independence . Until he retired from the military in 1999, he remained in command of the Lithuanian naval forces. His successor was Kęstutis Macijauskas .

After his years as a naval commander, Raimundas Baltuška taught at the University of Klaipėda for some time .
