Kudō competed in his first FIS race in 2004 at the age of 13. After becoming the Japanese champion in his special discipline halfpipe just one year later and eleventh at the Junior World Championship in Zermatt in April 2005 , he contested his first World Cup race in January 2006 , in which he was placed 24th. Just a month later, he won the 2006 Junior World Championships in Vivaldi Park . He was also used in the World Cup the next season , and in his third World Cup race he made it to the podium in second place. Since he also placed well in the other halfpipe races, he finished second in the halfpipe world cup behind his compatriot Ryō Aono at the end of the season .
In February 2008 Kudō was again Japanese champion, he also won the first World Cup race in the 2008/2009 season and thus leads the halfpipe rating.
