Kōtaro Sakurai

Kōtarō Sakurai ( Japanese 桜 井 孝 太郎 , Sakurai Kōtarō ; born June 29, 1994 in Ōta (Tokyo) , Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Filipino - Japanese automobile racing driver . He started in the GP3 series in 2012 .

Career

Sakurai began his motorsport career in formula racing in 2010 in the Pacific Formula BMW . He started for Eurasia Motorsport . He was ranked on a podium four times and finished the season in eighth place in the drivers' standings. In 2011, Sakurai started the year in the Toyota Racing Series . Starting for M2 Competition , he finished 14th in the overall ranking with a seventh place as the best place. He then started for Hitech Racing in the British Formula 3 championship . He took part in the rookie classification and won it with 15 victories from 30 races. However, he was the only starter in this classification in 12 races. He also took part in an event of the European F3 Open .

In 2012 , Sakurai competed in three events in the GP3 series for Status Grand Prix . Before that, he had already taken part in GP3 test drives for the racing team several times. At one event he entered with a Filipino racing license. At the end of the season he finished 24th. In addition, Sakurai took part in the final race weekend of the Auto GP World Series for Euronova Racing .
