The term Royal Prussian Railway Administration ( KPEV or KPEV for short ) or Royal Prussian State Railway Administration denotes the entirety of the state railway administration authorities in Prussia .

The largely independent railway directorates in Prussia were directly subordinate to the Ministry of Public Works . An authority called the Royal Prussian Railway Administration never existed, but the term was very widespread among railway fans from around 1970 and regarded as once existing. The name is often wrongly used for the Prussian State Railways .

The acronym KPEV and the coat of arms eagle were apparently first introduced by the Coeln Railway Directorate on the left bank of the Rhine after it was founded in 1880, initially to be attached to the cast axle box covers of their railway wagons. An entry in the catechism for the conductors' and brakeman's service from 1920 suggests that the KPEV abbreviation and coat of arms was primarily intended to allow the wagons of the various railway companies or Royal Railway Directorates belonging to Prussia to be assigned to each country in a uniform manner mark. The specific management affiliation - for example Breslau or Altona - was also attached to another point of the vehicle according to this representation. Later this marking was also used for other objects and buildings of the Prussian railway company.

After the abdication of Wilhelm II in November 1918 and thus the end of the Kingdom of Prussia, the abbreviation PStEV or P.St.EV for Prussian State Railway Administration was used until the establishment of the Deutsche Reichseisenbahn in April 1920 .
