The KAI-14 ( Russian КАИ-14 ) is a Soviet glider for the 15-m standard class . It was at the beginning of the 1960s Kazan Aviation Institute (Казанский авиационный институт, K asanski A wiazionny I nstitut) under the direction of M. P. Simonov developed.
commitment
In the 1965 World Gliding Championship, which was held in South Cerney from May 29th to June 13th , two KAI-14s took part, but they performed very disappointingly. It had already been suspected in advance that the poor visibility ahead, due to the lying position of the pilot, meant that the aircraft would be unsuitable for the typical outer landing areas in England, which mostly consisted of small meadows surrounded by hedges. The prognosis was confirmed when a KAI-14 lost its tail during an outland landing. It could be repaired, but lost three days. After members of the RAF were able to repair the aircraft , the second KAI-14 also broke down two days later.
construction
The KAI-14 is a cantilevered shoulder- wing aircraft in all-metal - half-shell construction with laminar profile and V-tail .
