KALW ( “Information Radio” ) is a public radio station based in San Francisco , California . Your signal on FM 91.7 MHz reaches the entire San Francisco Bay Area . Along with KQED, it is one of two NPR member stations in San Francisco.
The public radio station is licensed as a class B station for 1.9 k W effective radiated power (ERP). The transmitter broadcasts from 280 meters HAAT and thus increases its range considerably. KALW is owned by the San Francisco Unified School District.
history
KALW is the oldest VHF station west of the Mississippi . KALW started as an experimental station for General Electric at the 1939 and 1940 World Exhibition in San Francisco.

In addition to local programs, KALW transmits NPR programs such as All Things Considered and programs of the BBC WS. According to NPR, KALW is one of America's favorite podcasts.
