KBRW or KBRW-FM or KBRW-AM is an American public broadcaster from Utqiaġvik in the US state of Alaska . KBRW transmits on both the FM frequency 91.9 MHz and the medium wave frequency 680 kHz . The owner and operator is Silakkuagvik Communications, Inc.
The station sends alerts from the Emergency Alert System (EAS) , AMBER messages and weather warnings as well as regional and international news.
history
KBRW went on the air on December 22, 1974 as a non-commercial community radio station for the approximately 10,000 residents of this region of Alaska on medium wave and VHF. The construction of the station was supported by the US state of Alaska . The station has since broadcast a program for the North Slope region around Utqiaqvik , Point Hope , Point Lay , Wainwright , Atqasuk , Nuiqsut , Prudhoe Bay and Kaktovik .
