Yuzhnoye Design Office ( Russian Конструкторское бюро "Южное» ; Ukrainian . Державне конструкторське бюро "Південне" ім М. К. Янгеля , English Yuzhnoye SDO ) is a Ukrainian developer of rockets and spacecraft. The design office is based in Dnipro and was jointly responsible for the design of intercontinental ballistic missiles ( ICBMs ) in the Soviet Union . The designation of the Experimental Design Office (OKB) was OKB-586 and was founded by Michail Kusmitsch Jangel , who headed it as general designer until his death in 1971. He was followed by Wladimir Fjodorowitsch Utkin (1971–1991), Stanislaw Nikolajewitsch Konjuchow (1991–2010) and Alexander Wiktorowisch Degtjarjow (2010–2016) as general designers .

The office works with the manufacturer Juschmasch , which is also based in Dnipro. Juschmasch is the main contractor for the products developed by KB Juschnoje.

Products

According to the author René Heilig of the newspaper "Neues Deutschland", the office is said to have been involved in the production of the Russian Topol-M ICBM and the Bulava submarine missile . The end of cooperation with Russia due to the crisis in Ukraine in 2014 is expected to result in a loss of around 1,000 jobs and two billion dollars a year for Ukraine.
