The KFBE 53-54 were two diesel locomotives from the manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) from the 1959 model range for the Cologne-Frechen-Benzelrath Railway . They are allocated to the KHD MS 800 D or KHD MS 850 D series, depending on the source .

The two locomotives were later passed on to the Cologne-Bonn Railways and sold to Italy in the 1990s , their whereabouts are not known.

history

Cologne-Frechen-Benzelrath Railway KFBE 53–54

The locomotives were part of the 1959 type program and were built for the Cologne-Frechen-Benzelrath Railway. Their performance is given as 800 hp. After about 20 years they were passed on to the Cologne-Bonn Railways.

The locomotives were preferred in the Godorf harbor . They received shunting radio and radio remote control . In the early 1990s, both locomotives were shut down when MaK locomotives with three-phase drive technology took their place. After that they were sold to Italy. The further whereabouts are not known.

technical description

The medium-performance rod-powered locomotives belonged to a series of six types from the KHD type program in 1959. The medium power class comprised engine power between 300 hp and 1000 hp. The designation was derived from the scheme of the middle locomotive with rod drive, the engine power in HP and the D wheel arrangement.

The front end locomotives had a larger front end for the machinery and a smaller one for the auxiliaries. They had no transition from the driver's cab to the front porch, and the driver's cab had no sun protection. The four drive wheels of the locomotives, mounted in the rigid locomotive frame, were all laterally displaceable and mounted in Beugniot levers . As a result, the locomotives had good cornering at higher speeds and were able to drive around curve radii of up to 80 meters without any restrictions.

The machinery consisted of a twelve-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine and a hydraulic fluid transmission from Voith .
