The type series KHD A6M 420 R type B was a two-axle diesel locomotive with rod drive , which was designed for shunting service. From 1940 to 1943 16 locomotives were built by Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD). These were in use until the 1970s.
Two locomotives have been preserved.
development
The locomotives are the further development of the KHD A6M 220 R from 1936. In the meantime, the locomotives had received the renewed diesel engine of type 4 , which, however, was identical in the main dimensions. It was delivered;
- a locomotive was used as a KHD works locomotive,
- two locomotives were sold to Deutsche Sprengchemie ,
- a locomotive was sold to a company in Halle (Saale) ,
- a locomotive was sold to the armed forces,
- a locomotive was sold to a coal production company in Bochum ,
- a locomotive was sold to the city of Saarbrücken ,
- a locomotive to Opel ,
- a locomotive to the United German Nickel Works ,
- a locomotive was given to a company in Breslau .
Six locomotives were delivered to Bulgaria for this purpose .
technology
The locomotives have a machine front end and a driver's cab behind it. The power is transmitted by a rod drive , with the jackshaft being mounted as a transmission output shaft between the drive wheels. Originally the locomotives had a connecting rod and a coupling rod as a power transmission.
The locomotives were driven by a high-speed six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine from KHD, which was followed by a gearbox with reversing gear after a single-disc dry clutch .
They had a spacious cab with large windows.
commitment
German explosive chemistry
The locomotive was used by the company in a factory in Bad Sachsa and remained in the Harz Mountains until it was retired in 1990 . In 1993 it was handed over to the Braunschweig locomotive park .
Bulgaria
The six locomotives delivered to the BDŽ in Bulgaria were given the series designation 55 , which was later changed to the 61 series . The locomotive with the number 61.02 was kept for museum purposes after it was decommissioned. At the turn of the millennium, the locomotive was parked in a wagon factory in Drjanowo . This locomotive still has the original drive system with the drive rod from the jackshaft to the front axle.
