The DG 2000 BBM is a diesel locomotive from the manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) from the 1954 model range. The locomotive was later adapted in terms of performance to the KHD DG 1600 BBM and rebuilt several times. It was in operation until 2007 and was scrapped in 2011.

history

The locomotive was created as a result of the dieselization of the shunting and light line service by the rod locomotives, mainly by MaK in the 1950s. To increase the power of a locomotive, two engines were required. However, more powerful engines were not yet available. The drive system of the rod locomotives did not allow the use of two motors. Since a locomotive with a bogie design can demonstrate better running properties, this locomotive was built at KHD in 1956 with two motors, each working on a bogie.

In 1956, this locomotive was the first bogie locomotive in the new type range. It was manufactured by KHD on its own account and was initially used as a test on several railways. Around 1960 the locomotive was sold to a works railway in Heerlen . Before that, the engine output was reduced to 2 × 800 hp and the speed to 70 km / h. The locomotive ran there until 1967.

WLE VL 0634

When the works line was closed, the locomotive came back to Germany and was given the designation VL 0634 by the Westphalian State Railroad . For the shunting service it was equipped with new shunting steps like the KHD DG 1600 BBM . This made it easier to get on the circuit. In 1970, 1974 and 1978 the locomotive was involved in accidents, but was always rebuilt. Her appearance kept changing. So it got beveled stems and the headlights were made smaller.

In 1986/87 the locomotive was equipped with three-axle bogies. The engine output was increased again to the original 2 x 1000 hp in 1982. This made it identical to the KHD DG 2000 CCM . In 1990 it was renamed No. 34 and was named Erwitte . With two engine changes in 1990 and 1999, the locomotive became the most powerful locomotive in the KHD series. In its 50th year of service, the locomotive was again involved in a serious accident in 2007, was no longer repaired and was scrapped in 2011. Before the accident, the machine still had the NVR number 98 80 0421 004-9 D-WLE in the German vehicle settings register .

technical description

The locomotive was built in 1956 and was the largest front-mounted locomotive with a center driver's cab in Germany at the time. A machine system that drove the respective bogie was housed in each of the two fronts. Depending on your needs, you could drive with two or one engine. After its renovation in 1970, it was adapted to the KHD DG 1600 BBM . The distinguishing feature was initially the modified front section with the integrated headlights.

They were each equipped with a twelve-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine, of its force to a fluid transmission from Voith gave. The diesel engine was located in the front end, the fluid transmission was located near the driver's cab. From there the power was transmitted to the center of the bogie. After an intermediate gear, the two drive wheels were driven by cardan shafts. The power was originally 2 × 1000 hp. Before being sold in the Netherlands , it was throttled to 2 × 800 hp, after 1982 it was set back to 2 × 1000 hp.

In 1990, eight-cylinder, four-stroke diesel engines from KHD were installed in the locomotive, each with an output of 1100 hp. These engines were fast-moving . In 1999 it received reinforced engines from Caterpillar , which delivered a maximum of 1319 hp. The transmission was also changed several times. The locomotive originally had a bell , which was expanded in 1978.
