The type KHD PMZ 122 were two-axle diesel locomotives with rod drive , which were designed for light shunting service. They were built by Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) from 1929 and used on various private railways in Germany and Europe.

It is possible that only six locomotives have been produced, only one has data from production to retirement.

development

After the first combustion locomotive with a diesel engine was delivered in 1925 , in the same year KHD set up a range of types for light rail and shunting locomotives with vertical two-stroke diesel engines. The name of the locomotive was derived from the engine name; PMZ 122R means : engine series P = two-stroke diesel engine, M = water-cooled, Z = two-cylinder engine, 1 = development stage 1 of the engine, 22 = piston stroke of the engine in cm, R = standard-gauge shunting locomotive.

The only known locomotive in the series is the DL1 used by the Westphalian State Railroad . One vehicle each was delivered to the municipal railways in Cologne , the Adlerwerke , the municipal street cleaning company in Cologne and a brick factory in Bocholt . A locomotive was also delivered to Italy .

technology

The KHD PMZ 122 is a shunting locomotive with a front end and a driver's cab behind it. The round cab windows were a design feature of Deutz locomotives. The locomotives were supplied for various gauges between 900 and 1,676 mm.

The locomotive was powered by a two-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine that delivered 33 hp (24 kW) at 650 rpm. The power transmission as well as the control of the shift and reversing gears was done mechanically. From the gearbox outlet, a jackshaft with gear wheels and chains was driven under the driver's cab , which in turn transmitted the power to the drive wheels via a drive and coupling rod .

Westphalian State Railway DL 1

The only known locomotive in the series was delivered to a brick factory in Bocholt in 1930 . Before she came to WLE in 1935 , she made a stopover at a company in Soest . It was based in Lippstadt-Nord with the WLE until 1949 .

After 1949 it was passed on to a company in Sennelager and in 1954 came to a salt mine near Hanover , where it was also decommissioned.

According to other sources, the locomotive is said to have been stationed at the Burgdorfer Kreisbahnen . It is not listed in the documents on the circular paths. The source cites 1962 as the retirement date.

The machine delivered to the municipal railways in Cologne is said to have been returned to the manufacturer after a short time.
