The Arizona Hayride was a country show broadcast on KRUX of Phoenix , Arizona .
history
The Arizona Hayride first went on air in 1955. It was broadcast every Saturday night on prime-time from Madison Square Garden in Phoenix. The show was organized by disc jockey Ray Odom, who also acted as the host of the show. The house band of the Hayrides was Al Casey and his Sunset Riders , including Duane Eddy . At times the program, which was held among the audience, was also shown on the local television channel KOOL-TV. In December 1956, the show was renamed Baby State Jamboree ; the name was based on the fact that Arizona was the youngest state in the union at the time.
The Arizona Hayride was considered a local "talent factory" in Phoenix in the mid-1950s. Many regional musicians appeared on the show and thus had the opportunity to promote themselves. But rising stars also played on the Hayrides stage when they were in town. The DJ and producer Lee Hazlewood often looked for talents to suit his taste, such as Jimmy Johnson . The auditorium in which the program was previously held is now demolished and can no longer be used.
