The ancient Egyptian tomb KV4 in the Valley of the Kings was originally intended as a tomb for Pharaoh Ramses XI. serve, but it is unclear whether he was actually buried there.

More recently, KV4 was used as a Coptic residence. In addition, the Howard Carter tomb was used as a resting and dining room when he excavated Tutankhamun's tomb , KV62 , from 1922 .

The tomb has been open since ancient times and was excavated in 1979 by John Romer who worked for the Brooklyn Museum .
