Ramses XI. , also Ramses-Chaemwese , Chaemwese II. or Chaemwaset II. († 1076/1070 BC ) was the 10th and last ancient Egyptian king ( pharaoh ) of the 20th Dynasty ( New Kingdom ) and ruled from 1105 to 1076/1070 (?) v. He was also the last in the line of the so-called Ramessid rulers .

Domination

During the reign of Ramses XI. there was n't much left of the former greatness of Egypt . Sources show that the reputation of the country in the Middle East had sunk deeply and that in the south, around Thebes , revolts flared up again and again . While the Pharaoh ruled the north from his capital, Pi-Ramesse , the high priest of Amun , Amenhotep , ruled in the south , later his successor Panehsi as king. From the 19th year of the rule of Ramses XI. With Herihor, a high military man took over the government in Thebes and ruled over the south of Egypt independently of the Pharaoh.

Tomb

The for Ramses XI. The intended burial chamber KV4 is in the Valley of the Kings . However, this was not used because he was buried outside Thebes . His mummy was not found.
