Panehsi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Panehsi ( the Nubian ) was a viceroy of Cush at the end of the ancient Egyptian New Kingdom .

At the end of the 20th dynasty, conditions similar to civil war prevailed in Upper Egypt . The events are briefly mentioned in some documents, but research cannot draw any conclusions about the actual events. Panehsi is mentioned in various documents of this time and seems to have played an important role. The events date around the 8th year of Ramses XI. During this time the high priest of Amun , Amenophis , was deposed by Panehsi. In the years 12 to 17 Panehsi was under royal mandate in Upper Egypt and Thebes . Between the years 17 and 19 he is attested as an opponent of the ruler, so obviously changed sides. Thereupon he withdrew to Nubia , where he is attested in the 28th year of the same reign. He also died there and was buried in a modest grave in Aniba .
