List of tombs in the Valley of the Kings

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Panorama of the Valley of the Kings

The pharaohs tombs listed in this list are located in the Valley of the Kings near Thebes- West in Egypt . However, not all of them were used for the burial of pharaohs .

In order to designate and categorize the graves in the actual Valley of the Kings, Egyptologists use the acronym "KV" ( Kings' Valley ). The system was introduced by John Gardner Wilkinson in 1821 . The graves in the western valley, however, are also abbreviated with "WV" ( West Valley ).

The graves are numbered in the order in which they were discovered, from KV1 ( Ramses VII ) to KV65 . Some have been known since ancient times, while KV5 was only recently rediscovered. Current finds in the valley are KV63 (2005) and KV64 (2012). The KV65 is a radar anomaly that could indicate an unopened pharaoh's grave or a previously unknown burial chamber .
