KV13 is the name of the ancient Egyptian tomb in the Valley of the Kings , which was built for the treasurer Bay . At the end of the 19th dynasty, he was one of the most influential personalities in Egypt.
The grave complex is unfinished and consists of a long corridor that initially led into a first hall. Another corridor followed, in which there was a sarcophagus , and in the back the actual burial chamber, in which there is another sarcophagus.
The proportions of the tomb are almost identical to those of the tomb of Queen Tausret ( KV14 ), under whom Bay served. The decoration is also similar. There are scenes from the Book of the Dead and depictions of the Bay before various deities. King Siptah is depicted several times in the tomb, but it is always Bay who appears directly in front of the deities.
Bay was never buried in the tomb, as he was executed at the end of his career in Siptah's fifth year in power. The sarcophagi that were found here belong to the princes Amunherchepsef and Montuherchepschef . The sarcophagus of Amunherchepsef was originally that of Queen Tausret. Fragments of a canopic jug from Montuherchepschef were found, as well as 16 simple ushabtis and five with the dead book saying 6 with the title and name of the same prince.
