KV41 is an ancient Egyptian tomb in the Valley of the Kings . It dates from the early 18th Dynasty ( New Kingdom ) or the end of the 17th Dynasty ( Second Intermediate Period ). KV41 is located behind Deir el-Bahri on the western bank of the Nile in the Valley of the Pits . It is not known for whom the grave was created.
General
The grave lying in the hills consists of only a 11.24 meter deep shaft, with the dimensions 1.82 × 1.62 meters and a volume of 33.13 cubic meters. Side chambers were not created. The work was stopped by the craftsmen without having completed the grave. There are no murals or graffiti .
history
Although it is not known for whom the tomb was laid, the Egyptologist Elizabeth Thomas suspected that Queen Tetisheri , the possible wife of the Theban ruler Senachtenre , had KV41 built. This assignment means that the tomb was built at the end of the 17th dynasty . This would make it one of the first tombs that would have been dug for a queen in the Valley of the Kings. There is no evidence to support this theory. What is certain is that the grave was never used. Historical finds could not be discovered in the grave.
The grave was discovered in 1899 by Victor Loret on behalf of the Service des Antiquités . The excavations began in the same year. In 1900, Georges Aaran Bénedite visited the grave, two years later Georg Steindorff . In 1991, new excavations were carried out on behalf of the Institut français d'archéologie orientale in collaboration with the Department of Archeology at the University of Cairo .
